All tapered Bo Staff offers a lightweight version of their straight Bo Staff. You loose a little bit of strength because of that, but gain in being lighter weight. Therefore the Red Oak Tapered Bo Staff is a great middle ground between the Black Graphite Bo Staff and the Straight Red Oak Bo Staff. Like two Bo staffs in one.

This ability to be light enough for forms work and tough enough for partner work makes it popular with the Karate, Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do practitioners, but it’s really a good bo staff for anyone who wants that versatility. Traditionally the taper creates a smaller striking point which would produce more damage on your opponent, but these days the weight is the major benefit.
